At a young age Aliette Brunton fell in love with, and married, a much older man. She soon discovers that once married he has little use for her and indeed is often unfaithful. As a result of his repeated infidelities the two grow apart. Then by chance Aliette meets Ronald Cavendish and once again falls in love.
